Day One- Out with the old

Saturday April 11th 11am

James and Frank psyching themselves up for breaking shit!

All of the kitchen crap in my dinning room.

Down they come. Hasta la vista 1985.

A glimpse of the old tile. I told you it was UUUGGGLY!

2 hours later everything was down including the hideous soffits.

Before

The picture above is of our kitchen right before we started the demo. Some of you might say, hey this isn't so bad. Let me just say that the kitchen looked nothing like this when we moved in. When we moved in, we couldn't afford an entire kitchen renovation so we did what we could cosmetically to make it less nauseating. We changed all of the appliances to stainless steel, changed the tile, removed wall paper and painted.

I have mixed feelings about this renovation but not because I'll miss the old kitchen. Like many people, I despise renovating and living in chaos and clutter. We've lived in "this old house" for 3 yrs now so I have been through quite a bit of renovating. The last renovation we did was our upstairs bathroom. James did most of the work himself and it took quite a while because he was working on the weekends and at night. I was 6 months pregnant and I dealt with having to walk down a flight of stairs in the middle of the night to our downstairs bathroom ever time I had to pee. At least I am not pregnant this time. It' even more of a pain to do this now that we have a baby.

I will be happy to have a new kitchen but as I have told many of my friends, this isn't my dream kitchen. Since I do like to cook, you can imagine what a person like me thinks of as their dream kitchen. We won't get into that now because it's just too painful. LOL. Queue the music "Some day my Viking will come....." (sung to the tune of "Some day my prince will come").

Last Supper

I had to get in one last meal before we broke down the house so to speak. My cousin Frank generously offered to help James with the demo and his request was the Mexican Chicken Soup that I blogged about on my Take Back The Table Blog. So Mexican Chicken Soup it was along with some Guacamole and some Tostadas topped with refried beans and Cotija cheese. YUM!

After dinner we realized that we needed more boxes to empty the rest of the cabinets so while Frank and James were scouring Brooklyn for more boxes I whipped up my Ultimate Chocolate Chip cookie. I didn't have any white flour left in the house so I substituted wheat flour and they were just as delicious. We practically polished them off while we were packing up the kitchen.
